A286 Technical Data

Description: Alloy A286 Stainless Steel is an age-hardenable, iron-based Super Alloy which is useful for high strength and corrosion resistance up to 1300 Degree Fahrenheit and for lower stress applications at higher temperatures. A286 has high strength from 320 F up to 1000 F long time, 1300~1500 F Short time.

Applications: Alloy A-286 Stainless Steel is used in aircraft and industrial gas turbine, super-charger components, jet engines blades, wheels, castings, frames, fasteners, sockets, flange nuts, screws, afterburner parts.

      

Properties for A286 Stainless Steel

Workability:

Hot Working/Forging
Alloy A-286 Stainless Steel is rolled or forged from temperature of 1900/2050 Degrees F(1038/1121 Degrees C) using a short soaking period. It has good resistance to deformation during hot working. Do not forge below 1700 DegreesF(927 Degrees C).

Cold Working
In the solution treated condition, Alloy A-286 Stainless Steel can be satisfactorily cold drawn and formed. It is somewhat stiffer than stainless steels such as Types 316 and 310,and it work hardens rapidly.

Machinability
In general, the high temperature alloys are more difficult to machine than stainless steels. However, the iron-base alloy group, of which Alloy A-286 Stainless Steel is a member, is easier to machine than the nickel-based precipitation-hardening grades such as alloy 718 or cobalt-bearing grades such as alloy 41. Carbide insert tools are commonly used where possible.

Corrosion and Oxidation Resistance of A-286 Stainless Steel
Type A-286 alloy content is similar in chromium, nickel, and molybdenum to some of the austenitic stainless steels. Consequently, A-286 alloy possesses a level of aqueous corrosion resistance comparable to that of the austenitic stainless steels. In elevated temperature service, the level of corrosion resistance to atmospheres such as those encountered in jet engine applications is excellent to at least 1300 Degrees F (704 Degrees C).

Oxidation resistance of A-286 is high for continuous service up to 1500 Degrees F (816 Degrees C) and intermittent service up to 1800 Degrees F (982 Degrees C).
